COURSE INFORMATION
AID STATIONS & MEDICAL
There will be ambulances and medical personnel at the start line, finish line and along the course. If you need medical attention, find the nearest aid station, bearing in mind you may have just passed it. If you are not able to make it to an aid station by yourself, notify a volunteer, spectator or another runner to notify the nearest aid station of your location and condition. Aid stations will have the ability to contact the race’s medical staff to provide you with help.
We see you out there putting in the training to get ready for the Madison Marathon! Gatorade Endurance products are created specifically to help tough athletes like you replace the fluids and electrolytes lost when training and racing over prolonged periods. These products are backed by over 50 years of nutrition and hydration research at the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI). They deliver a 2:1 glucose:fructose blend that helps the body maximize carbohydrate absorption while minimizing GI distress. That means that with each serving, you’ll get the fluids and nutrients you need to dig deeper and work harder. Gatorade Endurance Formula will be available on-course at every aid station, delivering the fuel to unlock your best, start to finish.
To learn more about Gatorade Endurance products, visit www.Gatorade.com. #FormulatedforFarther
Aid stations will serve Gatorade, water, and GU Energy Gel (assorted flavors, while supplies last). Plan ahead! Make sure you grab GU or fruit when it is available, even if you have to carry it with you until you need it. COURSE COMMUNICATION
Colored flags will be located at each aid station and at the finish line area to alert runners to changing course and weather conditions. In cases of emergency, please follow the instructions below. In rare instances, it may be necessary to either close the race course or re-route participants. If this occurs, it is being done for the safety of the participants and volunteers.
*RED FLAG*
How is Red Flag conditions determined?
The Madison Marathon presented by SSM Health does not use temperature alone in calling a Red Flag situation. The race’s medical and meteorological staffs have developed a matrix that incorporates sports physiology recommendations based on geographic location with up-to-the minute weather data including, but not limited to, temperature, humidity, dew point, and wind speed. This matrix is constantly being monitored before and during the event and if a combination of these elements creates a Red Flag situation this is immediately communicated to race officials.
What happens when Red Flag conditions occur?
The simple answer is the race is stopped. The more elaborate answer is that when conditions warrant Red Flags the staff must determine where on the course to stop runners. Next, resources (staff, volunteers, law enforcement, buses, etc) must be moved to that location to facilitate a shutdown of the event and to relocate participants from the stopping point back to the Finish Line.
