Run for a Cause: How Every Step Can Make a Difference

Are you ready to lace up your running shoes and hit the pavement? The Madison Marathon is back and better than ever! This year, the Madison Marathon is partnering with non-profit organizations to make every step count. For every person that registers using the unique code, MOMENTUM,the Madison Marathon will donate $5 to a non-profit organization. One of the non-profit organizations that you can support is Momentum In Recovery. Momentum In Recovery was founded in April 2021 after the devastating loss of a loved one to overdose. The founder of Momentum In Recovery, Vanessa Hurr, realized that finding resources to assist with her brother’s Substance Use Disorder, mental health issues, and homelessness were costly, consuming, and more often than not, very hard to come by. The drive to create Momentum In Recovery was an easy YES once she knew how donations could directly impact people in Wisconsin that are up against similar struggles. The organization believes that generosity multiplies abundance, and through donations, they are able to host charitable events, educational pop-ups, prepare meals for those who are experiencing food insecurity, and assist people who are trying to live their life in recovery from mental and behavioral health issues. There are big things in the works. You’ll see them at the state Capitol building on August 31 where they will host their annual march and vigil to honor International Overdose Awareness Day. Additionally, they are working hard on being able to provide scholarships to people who are seeking treatment for recovery from Substance Use Disorder through alternative modalities. Every event that Momentum In Recovery does is a success because it further reduces the shame and stigma that surrounds people who are seeking freedom from their addiction or mental health struggles. “I believe that everyone’s recovery journey is different and finding unique ways to help people put more tools in their toolbelt as they cultivate their own lifestyle in recovery is the goal,” says Hurr. So, what are you waiting for? Register for the Madison Marathon and use the unique code MOMENTUM to support Momentum In Recovery. Every step you take can make a difference in someone’s life. You can also donate directly to Momentum In Recovery through their website. Let’s run for a cause and make a difference together! Instagram: @momentuminrecovery
